U.S. Senate Races 2008 |
| Tom Allen (D-ME) - Rep. Tom Allen is a real progressive who has shown consistent wisdom and courage on Iraq. Unlike incumbent Susan Collins, he spoke out strongly against the authorization for war in 2002, and he has voted repeatedly to bring an end to the war. Donate! |
| Max Baucus (D-MT) - should easily win re-election without a strong GOP challenger. |
| Joe Biden (D-DE) - very likely to retain his senate seat. |
| Richard J. Durbin (D-IL) - very likely to retain his senate seat. Donate! |
| Al Franken (D-MN) - faces a tough but very winnable race against incumbent Republican, Norm Coleman. Donate! |
| Kay Hagan (D-NC), is a five term member of the state senate running a very competitive race with a good chance to beat Elizabeth Dole. Donate! |
| Tom Harkin (D-IA) - should win re-election but his liberal record makes a good challenge likely. Donate! |
| John Kerry (D-MA) - an overwhelming favorite to win re-election. Donate! |
| Tim Johnson (D-SD) - unclear at this time whether Johnson's past health issue will make him more likely or less likely to retain this seat. Donate! |
| Mary Landrieu (D-LA) - this is one of the Dems most vulnerable Senate seats because of the loss of residents from New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina and she should face a strong GOP challenge. Donate! |
| Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) - should easily win re-election. Donate! |
| Carl Levin (D-MI) - has a challenger but should easily win re-election. Donate! |
| Ronnie Musgrove (D-MS) - a well-known former governor, is the Democratic candidate for the seat vacated by Trent Lott, who retired in December and was replaced by Roger Wicker, a lesser-known United States representative. This is a race the Dems can win. Donate! |
| Mark Pryor (D-AR) - a centrist Democrat but solid favorite to hold his seat. Donate! |
| Jack Reed (D-RI) - should easily win re-election in a heavily Democratic state |
| Andrew Rice (D-OK) - a young state senator who can beat incumbent GOP Senator James M. Inhofe with help from environmental groups and activists. Donate! |
| John D. Rockefeller (D-WV) - a solid favorite to win re-election |
| Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) - The only woman elected Governor of New Hampshire, Jeanne Shaheen worked to make a difference for families. The result is a record of achievement in smart energy policies, expanding access to health care, making government more accountable, improving education, strengthening the state’s economy, preserving our environment, and protecting civil rights. She faces a tough but winnable race against incumbent John Sununu. Donate! |
| Mark Warner (D-VA) - this is John Warner's seat the Dems hope to pick up and should win against the likely Republican challenger, former Gov. James Gilmore. Donate! |

Important
House Races in 2008 |
| Donna Edwards (D-MD) - is running in the 4th district against a 3rd term Congressman Al Wynn, who has a habit of saying all the right things to his very progressive constituency and then voting against their interests (and ours) at every turn! Donate! |
| Gabrielle
Giffords (D-AZ) - is a new House Democrat in
the 8th District which is a GOP-leaning district.
She will be targeted for defeat by the GOP. She
will need to raise about $2.5 million to hold this
seat. Giffords cosponsored legislation to raise
the minimum wage, support alternative energy and
lower the cost of perscription drugs. She also supported
legislation banning lobbyists's gifts to Congress
and making college loans more affordable. |
| Kirsten
Gillibrand (D-NY) - represents NY's heavily
Republican 20th District. She is being targeted
for defeat by the GOP. Gillibrand is serving on
the Armed Services Committee and the Agricultural
Committee and is one of only three freshmen serving
on the Democratic Steering Committee. She ran on
a message of change and government integrity and
will need to raise $4 million to retain her seat. |
| Jim Himes (D-CT) - has been doing a great job holding Chris Shay's feet to the fire on Iraq, while also standing up for a strong progressive policy on national security. And with his background in the non-profit and business worlds, he will bring the type of entrepreneurial leadership to Congress that it so desperately needs. He is running in the CT-4 against Shays. |
| Chellie Pingree (D-ME) - is running for Congress in Tom Allen's seat in the first district in Maine, and she has demonstrated in this campaign that she will be able to follow in his footsteps. Like Tom, Chellie was leading on the war before it began, when she stood up and said clearly that this was the wrong war against the wrong enemy during her race for Senate five years ago. As president of Common Cause, she helped expose the no-bid contracts being awarded in Iraq to companies like Halliburton. And in her campaign, she's spoken out often and strongly against the war. Chellie has proven she has the experience and wisdom to be a great representative for the voters of Maine, and a real leader in Congress. |
| Carol
Shea-Porter (D-NH) - was elected in the 1st
district and is the first woman elected to Congress
from NH. She has already cosponsored bills to to
expand stem cell research and raise the minimum
wage and is sponsoring a bill to force government
to negotiate lower prices for Medicare prescription
drugs. |
| Niki Tsongas (D-MA) - is running for Congress standing up to George W. Bush's Iraq policy, fighting to make health care affordable, and grow good jobs instead of exporting them. |
